EKG Technician - New Martinsville Campus

 ----  5 week HYBRID COURSE ----

This course prepares students for the EKG Technician role in a healthcare setting.  Students will be taught the principles of quality control, infection control, safety procedures, pathology, medical terminology, and patient care's legal and ethical aspects.  This course includes classroom instruction and campus laboratory skills practice.   Students are required to successfully obtain 10 EKGs on live individuals.  Students who complete all aspects of the course are eligible to sit for the EKG Technician Certification Exam, provided by the National Health Career Association.

Additionally, program completers of EKG and Phlebotomy can receive college credit towards WVNCC’s Patient Care Technician Certificate – a one-year program.

Paramedic Program - Fall 2022 (Seat Reservation)

The second Paramedic education cohort is taking applications and seat reservations for the Fall 2022 Cohort. The 14-month program will begin August 2022. Tuition is $4,999. Classes will be offered in a variable format to meet the needs of the first responder community. This includes a hybrid format of live online, online coursework and in person face-to-face. All labs and clinical rotations are completed face-to-face. Classes will be held at the Wheeling Campus, 1704 Market Street Wheeling, WV 26003.

Prerequisites include a current WVOEMS or NREMT EMT certificate, available through WVNCC Career Development .

You can reserve your seat in the class with a $50 deposit. Contact us to discuss the financial aid options and payment plan options for the remainder of the tuition. Financial aid may be available to those who qualify from either HEAPS or WIOA funding. Books,uniforms, and certification costs are not included in the fees. Phlebotomy Technician - New Martinsville

Program Length: 40 hours of instruction

This course prepares the student for the Phlebotomy Technician role in a healthcare setting. The student will be instructed on techniques & skills related to preparing and monitoring patients for relevant procedures, and gain an understanding of infection control measures. Students are required to successfully complete 45 hours of preceptorship experience, in which they must demonstrate adequate skills related to Phlebotomy techniques, including 30 venipunctures and 10 capillary draws which are required for the student to be eligible to take the Phlebotomy Certification exam. This exam will be taken in the last week of the course.

Additionally, program completers of EKG and Phlebotomy can receive college credit towards WVNCC’s Patient Care Technician Certificate – a one-year program.

The Certified Nursing Assistant program prepares individuals for an entry-level position in the health care field. Graduates work closely with patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. The nursing assistant provides important information on patient conditions to nurses and is vital to the daily operations of a skilled nursing facility, home health organization, or hospital. After program completion, prospective Nursing Assistants take a competency examination to become certified.

This course covers the same content as HPE 110 and can be used for credit through PLA.

This course is designed to introduce students to the principles of emergency care for first responders. Students will learn to respond in an emergency and provide immediate lifesaving care until more definitive medical care can be provided by health care professionals. Care of the victim will include assessment, administration of first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation when needed for adults, children, and infants.

Students who successfully complete the course will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and First Aid card.  

This course covers the same content as HPE 110.
