The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.
This class is offered in a variable lecture format using in-person, interactive and ZOOM platforms. Labs must be completed in-person. This class contains the EMS Education Standards for NREMT Advanced EMT and the West Virginia Expanded Scope of Practice Advanced EMT Curriculum. This course includes required clinical and field hours that must be completed outside of classroom lecture/lab. The NREMT Advanced EMT cognitive and psychomotor exams are part of the curriculum and will be conducted prior to beginning the West Virginia Expanded Scope of Practice.
Prerequisites include a current WVOEMS EMT or NREMT EMT certification.
