Since the first half of the class is online, if you are interested, you are still able to register for this class. All online work MUST BE COMPLETED prior to the IN-PERSON class start.
Currently registrations for New Martinsville and Weirton campuses are low. If we do not have enough to run the classes in person you can be moved to the Wheeling campus class. Wheeling campus in person training will be on Sundays from 6:00pm - 9:00pm on April 12, 19, 26, and May 3, 2026.
The Sports Officiating Training Program is a comprehensive, hybrid learning course designed to prepare students to become certified sports officials. This program combines online instruction through the Ref Reps platform with in-person and virtual training to develop rule knowledge, mechanics, professionalism, and real-time officiating skills. Upon successful completion, students will be positioned to obtain state certification in Ohio and West Virginia and connect with local officiating associations for placement opportunities.
Course Structure and Format
Each course consists of 25 total instructional hours per sport and is delivered over approximately 10 weeks.
Student Fees and Registration
- Students will pay a $50 fee to take the course through West Virginia Northern
- Students will pay a $70 fee through Dragonfly to access the Ref Reps online certification exam.
Part I of training
March 1st- online profile set up, Dragonfly and Ref Reps account. (3hrs)
March 15th- online meeting check in with facilitator about Ref Reps Progress.(3hrs)
March 29th- Online meeting to complete test and submit Ref Reps Exam Certificates. (3hrs)
Part II Training (in person - 3 hours per session)
New Martinsville: Thursday April 9th, April 16th, April 23rd, April 30th
