The Volleyball Officiating Training Program is a comprehensive, hybrid learning course designed to prepare students to become certified sports officials. This program combines online instruction through the Ref Reps platform with in-person training to develop rule knowledge, mechanics, professionalism, and real-time officiating skills. Upon successful completion, students will be positioned to obtain state certification in Ohio and West Virginia and connect with local officiating associations for placement opportunities.
Course Structure and Format
Each course consists of 14 total instructional hours per sport and is delivered over approximately 4 weeks.
Student Fees and Registration
* Students will pay a $50 fee to take the course through West Virginia Northern
* Students will pay a $70 fee through Dragonfly to access the Ref Reps online certification exam.
Training Dates
Wednesday June 10th 6pm-8pm: Officials will be introduced to and set up in the DragonFly/RefReps for online training (2hrs)
Sunday June 14th 4pm-7pm: Basics of the Game, Fundamental Rules of Play, Signals & Mechanics (3hrs)
Wednesday June 17th 6pm-8pm: Serving Rules, Common Faults & Violations, Team & Player Positions (2hrs)
Wednesday June 24th 6pm-8pm: Officiating Team & Duties, Scoring & Match Structure (2hrs)
Sunday June 28th 4pm-7pm: Communication, Safety & Sportsmanship (3hrs)
Tuesday June 30th 6pm-8pm: Course Recap and Next Steps (2hrs)
