Summer Welding Institute
with Jayson Summers
Our Welding Institute is designed to provide the skills necessary to enter the workforce immediately upon completion. Participants in this short-term intensive welding program will complete courses that include OSHA 10, SMAW I & II, blueprint reading, MIG I, TIG I, and Forklift Safety. Students will have the opportunity to test for welding certifications in SMAW vertical and 3 position plate welds, MIG plate welds, and pipe welds dependent on each individual’s ability and progression in the courses.
The Welding Institute is held for 10 weeks during the summer (7:30am – 4:00pm; M-F)

Blueprint / P&ID Reading and Interpretation - Wheeling Campus

This course is designed to prepare students for an introduction to reading and interpreting machine shop symbols, welding prints and working drawings used in trades and crafts. The course focuses on dimension, shape, fabrication and assembly. Students will learn to interpret A.W.S. welding symbols found on prints including bead width; bead length; contour abutment; bead material; and smoothness. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a continuing education certificate of completion.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding I - Wheeling Campus

Shielded Metal Arc Welding I (SMAW I)
Learn the process of SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) Stick Welding. This program is an intense, hands-on training to prepare for the initial Certification test after this course. Course fees will include the cost of the certification exam.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding II (SMAW II) - Wheeling Campus
with Jayson Summers
This course is a continuation of Shielded Metal Arc Welding I and provides instruction towards certification testing requirements for vertical and 3-position weld tests (horizontal, vertical, and overhead). Additionally, the instruction includes 6G pipe with an uphill weld dependent on the participant's progression in the course, and skill level certification exams will be given dependent on an individual's knowledge and skill. Course fees will include the cost of the certification exam.

MIG I (Gas Metal Arc Welding) - Wheeling Campus

This course may be eligible for college credit (WELD 202 Beginning MIG) upon successful completion.
This course introduces students to the safety, nomenclature, and set up procedures for gas and metal arc welding (MIG). Students will perform open Single-V-Groove welds on plate without backing. Students will learn how to weld in all four positions and prepare for a certification test at the end of this course.

TIG I (GTAW) - Wheeling Campus

This course may be eligible for college credit (WELD 206 Beginning TIG) upon successful completion.
This course will cover TIG welding training on vertical open root techniques. Certification exam is available and included for the vertical open root, 3 position, and possible 6G pipe.

MIG II (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
with Jayson Summers
This course may be eligible for college credit (WELD 204 Advanced MIG) upon successful completion.
This course is a continuation of MIG I and an advanced class. Students will perform welds in all four positions on plate with backing and aluminum. Welds will be testing to AWS non-destructive standards.
